About Us

JEFSC is a Jewish community foundation—a place where values, vision, leadership, and philanthropy meet. Rooted in the Jewish principles of Tzedakah (justice), and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), K’lal Yisrael (Jewish peoplehood) we’ve been building bridges between donors and meaningful change since 1996.

We help individuals, families, and organizations make a lasting impact—on Jewish life, education, social issues, healthcare, and community resilience—across South Carolina and beyond.

New Fund Spotlight

Herb & Jean S. Rosner Family Fund to Support Charleston PJ Library

A generous gift from Herb Rosner established the Herb & Jean S. Rosner Family Fund to Support Charleston PJ Library, ensuring the program’s sustainability for generations to come. This seed gift, held at the Jewish Endowment Foundation of South Carolina, allows the Charleston Jewish Federation to continue delivering high-quality Jewish books, programs, and resources to hundreds of families throughout the Lowcountry.

Herb and Jean’s commitment to Jewish philanthropy and early childhood education is evident in the decision to establish this endowment fund. Jean Sokol Rosner, of blessed memory, was a dedicated early childhood educator with more than 30 years of experience in the Charleston County School System and Detroit Public Schools. She met the love of her life, Herb, while teaching in Detroit. Their 54 years of marriage brought many blessings, the greatest of all being their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Herb and Jean are leaving a legacy through this generous act for all families raising Jewish children.
